OUR STORY

Run. Coed y Brenin was born out of a training run in the Coed y Brenin forest for Matt Ward and a couple of friends (Jayne and Phil) back in 2011. By 2012 the dream had become reality and the Salomon Trail Marathon Wales took place in that June.

Over the following years a trail running network was developed along with Natural Resources Wales, containing four fantastic trail running routes, all starting and finishing at the visitor centre and cafe. A suite of races from 10k's to half marathons, ultras and night trail events took place, across all four seasons during the next few years and by 2015 we had opened a running store, in association with Salomon, which had hire shoes and on-the-doorstep access to a bespoke shoe test route.

During this time weekly night run groups took place, trail workshops and

experience weekends were a regular occurrence and a Saturday morning junior trail running club - academi CyB - also sprung up. By now the trail running community at Coed y Brenin welcomed runners and supporters from across the UK and beyond.

Unfortunately the coronavirus pandemic proved a difficult time for Run. CyB with the store closing and the academi having to stop. However, with the help of local runners such as Mat Fenwick the weekly night runs carried on, and still continue today. Events-wise Run. CyB is still alive and this year (2023) sees us celebrate our 10th edition of Trail Marathon Wales and we are proud to say that in the last 10 years or so we have welcomed almost 30,000 event and workshop participants to this beautiful forest location in the southern corner of Eryri, Wales.

All of this would not have been possible without the help and support of countless friends, volunteers and staff over the years - the life and soul of any community. There are too many to single out, but these people are know locally as Yr Teulu - the family!

Here's to another 10 years!
